No, but eventually I will. It’s a hugely difficult decision for women to make when deciding on the ‘best time’ to have children. Most women are just getting to the peak of their career when it is the healthiest time for them to have kids (under 35), so they feel that they are sacrificing a potential promotion or even their original job if they take time off. Unfortunately in our society many job roles don’t allow women the opportunity to take much time off during and after pregnancy. However, from my experience of knowing women in scientific research who have children, it is one of the few occupations where your working hours are flexible enough to allow you to retain your permanent job while having time to be a mother. It is nice to know we are a profession that respects these kinds of decisions.
Not at all – just because I didn’t meet the right person at the right time. I’ve also been a donor in Clare’s line of work so technically I have bred even if I don’t have children.
