No I haven’t, I’m only 3 years in though! It is something that I would really love to do in the future. I would like to write a book explaining materials science, or bio-materials to the general public, because I loved books like that growing up. I read a great one recently called ‘Bad Science’, which goes through and analyses all the science in the media. I recommend it, it’s very good!

Well, yes and no! Let me explain.

When you do a PhD, you do lots of research for 3 years and then you write it up into a book (called a ‘thesis’). My thesis was about 75000 words. If you really wanted to, you could go and read it in the St Andrews University library. However, it is written mainly for other scientists, so the language and layout is very specialised.

I would love to write a book in the future that lots of people could read, but we shall see if I get the chance.

Some of the pictures I’ve taken have ended up in other people’s books but I don’t have the right mind to sit down and write a book myself.
