Hiya. I knew that I wanted to study biology at university. At first I was unsure because I really enjoyed English literature but I thought there was so much more to find out and learn about the world if I studies Biology. So I chose that! I didn’t think about doing a PhD until my final year of University when I saw an advertisement for the research I am doing on sperm and lifestyle and I was interested in developmental biology so I went for it. Looking back I wish I had more confidence in myself and had applied to other Universities or institutions for other PhDs because at the time I didn’t think I was cut out for research. Now that I am doing it I realise I shouldn’t have doubted myself. And so you shouldn’t doubt yourself either. And definitely don’t worry about being unsure about your career, there is a lot of pressure on young people to decide early on and often you just don’t know. So do whatever subjects you love and be confident in yourself.
