I don’t believe in God (although I know some scientists who do). I wouldn’t say that I *believed* in evolution – I think that there is lots of evidence to support evolution. We can see the effects of evolution all around us (so, it is almost the same as believing in evolution, but my support of evolution and how it works will change when different evidence comes along – that is how science works).
Lewis got to it first but I agree – you don’t believe in evolution any more that someone belives in gravity – the evidence is there.
I don’t believe in a god either – I don’t think one is necessary to explain what we see around us and there’s no evidence a god exists. If someone comes up with proper evidence I’d consider it and possibly change my mind
I’m going to echo the guys above – I don’t ‘believe’ in evolution because it’s not a matter of belief – it’s looking at the evidence and accepting something as an explanation. I also don’t believe in God (man up in the sky business).
Evolution is so fascinating that once you study it and understand the fundamental principles, more things around you start to make sense: all organisms evolved by natural seletion to survive and reproduce in their environmental niche. The incredible detail and complexity of higher organisms is the reason that people initially thought that things could not have happened by accident, which is where the idea that a god must have created came from. But this diversity did come from common ancestors, which we know from genetics studies.
Also most religious people believe that the earth is only a few thousand years old, according to their scriptures. Physics and cosmology and geology tells us that the earth is 4.7 billion years old and that’s fact. So no I do not believe in god either.
