Oh yes! Sometimes it can be very very stressful, but the days when things go right and I get to see something or lean something no one has seen before are so worth it.
Yeah, it’s good fun (usually). Sometimes there are some tough things, I don’t particularly like maths and there can be some complicated maths when we are trying to work out our results. However, even then it is great to be doing a job that I am so interested in.
I love it! Most of the time it is fun and exciting, and quite sociable which I like. Obviously sometimes it can be difficult, I especially agree with Lewis about the maths! But it is also very satisfying when you manage to get through it 🙂
Yup. There are also things one can do beyond research in universities after one has had experience in science. I’m exploring that now as I near the end of my PhD and thinking about what to do next – it’s a whole other equally fascinating world.
Of course! As a research scientist you get to do projects that no one has ever done before, trying to find out new things that help us understand health and disease, the environment, or innovate technology. These things are so important for societies to develop and improve, and that’s why countries are often in such competition with each other. Being a part of that is extremely exciting and rewarding!
