      Nope!

      All drugs are harmful if you use them irresponsibly (just like anything!) That is why we have doctors to make sure that people are prescribed the right drugs and the right dosages.

      Drugs have to be approved as safe for use before they are released to the market. So it wouldn’t be that they were ‘illegal’ as such, they just wouldn’t pass the test and therefore wouldn’t be produced. e.g. if you wanted to make a drug that treated a cold, but it turned out that it caused blindness, well it wouldn’t pass the test and no one would buy it!

      In the past the tests for drugs, as well as for food and drink were less rigorous. So if someone only just invented alcohol or tobacco it wouldn’t have passed the tests, and we wouldn’t be able to buy it.
