It’s not for my research – it’s purely for my outreach work with schools and members of the public. All my microscopes make 3d pictures which are great and look pretty on screen but you can’t get a proper feel for how things are shaped and how those shapes interact just by looking at the screen.

A 3d pritner would let me make big models of cells and viruses that people would able to pull apart and experiment with to see how these things are put togther in the first place, as the printers are so cheap to run I’d be able to give away models.
