      The egg.

      Evolution is a very slow process which happens over many generations. A dinosaur didn’t just given birth to a bird, there are very slow changes. The animals that are best suited to an environment survive better (e.g. if you are the giraffe with the longer neck and get more food from the trees than your brother or sister with a short neck, you will survive better and have children). Gradually over many generations animals will start to look different and, eventually, become different species.
