      Pyrocystis lunula – I grow them in the lab as a hobby and keep some at home too –

      They’re a type of algae that emits blue light when they’re disturbed and they’re one of the oddest things I’ve ever had, they rearrange their cell according to the time of day, have chloroplasts that are orange ( in any normal self respecting plant they’d be green ) and sit inside a delicate little moon shaped silica shell.

      I’d like to see them in the wild where they can light up miles of ocean at night.
