I will use the money to help my put on a show about chimpanzees at the Edinburgh Festival in August and in Birmingham in September. The show is about an imaginary chimpanzee who has killed his friend (sometimes chimps do get into huge fights) and we will be talking about whether a chimp could ever be a murderer (like a human) or whether there is something special about humans that makes us different.

The show will be amazing, because it is all about getting scientists and the public talking and finding out what we all think.

I’d split it with you if you vote for me!

Seriously though I’d love to get a 3d printer – my microscopes are designed to make 3d images and there’s only so much you can get from them just looking at a screen. If I could make decent sized models of whole cells and organisms for people to handle and take apart I’d be able to get across so much more of the wonderful way life works.

I’d also be able to print up some simple microscope kits for schools and ultimately I want to make an alien autopsy set – taking things from different forms of life on earth and putting them together in one dissectable model as way of discussing what we can learn about a creatures habitat by looking at the animal itself.

I’d also print Lewis a chimp since he asked nicely..

I do a lot of schools talks and it would be really great to have some kit to take around with me! The money would go a long way to getting things like molecule models and plastic body parts to help explain the world of bio-medical materials and materials science generally.
