Sound needs molecules to travel through, and there are no molecules in space as there is no atmosphere. If you were on a planet in outer-space that had an atmosphere, then you would be able to hear sound.

Sound is made of vibrations of molecules, in order for the sound to travel, it has to knock into another molecule and make that one vibrate as well. If there is no molecule to pass the vibration on to, then nothing can be heard.

      I hope this helps!
